The only way to get off dialysis is to get a new kidney. I am currently on the Kidney Transplant Program at the University of Tennessee Hospital, and Emory Hospital in Atlanta, GA. We are in the process of getting on the transplant program at UAB University of Alabama, Birmingham and University of Kentucky.
Being on these programs could take 3 to 5 years and some longer to receive a kidney match. That is why it is essential to find a living donor.
Although this is a difficult and humbling request for me to make, I’m hoping my family, friends, and their friends might consider being tested in order to donate a kidney to ensure the long life I, like all of us, hope for. As you probably know, you can live a completely normal life with one kidney, but with two kidneys no longer functioning there is an urgency to my request.
I would really appreciate your consideration.
With love,
-Lana
Dear Friends and Family,
As some of you may know, in 2015 I was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease, Focal Segmental Glameruloscliousis (FSGS) and Proetinuria. This disease attacks the filtering units of the kidneys which causes scarring and leads to permanent kidney damage.
My kidneys have reached the point where they are no longer working and I have had to go on dialysis. I am doing Peritoneal (PD) dialysis at home now which keeps me from being sick and is keeping me alive.
